March 19, 2015 - The Window & Door Dealers Alliance, in conjunction with the National Glass Association, is launching Window & Door Dealer Days at GlassBuild America: The Glass, Window & Door Expo. The three-day event will take place, September 16-18, 2015, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
Jan. 9, 2015 - Window, door and skylight installers in Manitoba are invited to come out of the cold Jan. 28 for a day of training with David Mitten, executive director of the Siding and Window Dealers Association of Canada. Mitten will offer the Fenestration Installation Technician (FIT) course from 8:30 to 3:30 at the Red River College Notre Dame campus in Winnipeg. The session is presented by Fenestration Manitoba.
Aug. 14, 2014 - Predicted thunderstorms did not materialize over the annual Siding and Window Dealers Association of Canada golf tournament Aug. 12 at Victoria Park East Golf Club in Guelph, Ont., much to the relief of golfers and organizers. About 90 golfers enjoyed the excellent weather and a chance to reconnect with friends, colleagues and customers in a lighthearted scramble.
Aug. 7, 2014 - Fenestration Review magazine has attracted an endorsement from a new association partner, the Siding And Window Dealers Association of Canada (SAWDAC). The magazine has agreed to work with SAWDAC to communicate to the Canadian window and door industry about the association's initiatives and activities. Each print issue of Fenestration Review will contain a SAWDAC newsletter as a permanent department.
A window and door fabricator commented to me recently that he sometimes runs into an objection from architects regarding the combustibility of his PVC window profiles. They say they cannot use vinyl on commercial projects because the building code requires “self-extinguishing” materials, and PVC is considered combustible. This is partly, but not entirely, true. And I’m not sure it should be true at all.
Sept. 27, 2013 - PPG Industries has launched a new residential glass website at www.ppgglass.com to help homeowners more easily shop for windows and window glass. Divided into five chapters, the site is highlighted by a comprehensive “Understanding Window Glass” section that describes how insulating glass units help save energy, the benefits of energy-efficient windows, and how low-emissivity (low-E) glass works.
