Fenestration Canada Edmonton Regional Event pleases all

April 10, 2019  By Patrick Flannery

Fenestration Canada held its Edmonton Regional Event April 9 at Durabuilt Windows. About 60 attendees heard a day of educational presentations and participated in lively discussions about everything except the Oilers.

FenCan technical consultant Jeff Baker shared his inside knowledge of Canadian codes and where they will be going in the next months and years. Jon Eakes presented his interesting solutions for cold climate window installation. Justin Pockar from the city of Calgary discussed his office’s interpretation of Alberta and Calgary codes along with alternative ways to meet them. Al Jaugelis of RDH Building Science covered NAFS. And Jessie Roy, an acoustical engineering specialist with RWDI Consulting Engineers, handed out tips on building for maximum acoustic performance.

Notable was the interest from Edmonton city codes officials who attended to learn more about window and door codes and to ask questions of the presenters. Attendees had a chance to talk to the officials and discuss compliance matters with them.

Durabuilt was a great host with lots of help with parking and last minute changes to accommodate a larger-than-expected crowd. AmesburyTruth provided wifi.

There was lots of lively discussion and questions. Feedback on the content was excellent. Discussions were constructive and informative.

“Based on the success of this, I think many manufacturers across the country will be eager to host on of these in their area,” said Stephane Labelle, FenCan executive director. “I think these events go a long way toward establishing Fenestration Canada as an authoritative and influential source of information about codes and standards.”

Plans are under way for another event soon. Labelle feels the potential exists for more than one of these each year if interested venue hosts reach out. To inquire about hosting a Fenestration Canada regional event, contact the association at info@fenestrationcanada.com.
