April 15, 2014 – All Weather Windows came to the aid of Canadians in need for the third straight year with its annual Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build April 12 in Mississauga, Ont. Over 300 AWW employees, donating their time on a weekend, joined AWW senior vice president Henry Banman and Habitat for Humanity CEO Kevin Marshman in building enough windows and doors for 45 homes for families in need across the country.
April 15, 2014 – All Weather Windows came to the aid of Canadians in need for the third straight year with its annual Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build April 12 in Mississauga, Ont. Over 300 AWW employees, donating their time on a weekend, joined AWW senior vice president Henry Banman and Habitat for Humanity CEO Kevin Marshman in building enough windows and doors for 45 homes for families in need across the country.

The team gathered at 7 a.m. to be served breakfast by Habitat for Humanity volunteers and hear from Banman, Marshman, Habitat spokesman Andrew Thornicroft and, via web video, AWW president Richard Scott who was presiding over a simultaneous Blitz Build at AWW’s Edmonton headquarters. Most importantly, the AWW team heard from Melissa Jenkins and her daughter, Nevaeh, who had recently moved into a Habitat home. Jenkins thanked the workers, adding, “Our neighbourhood is terrible, there are a lot of drugs and violence. Nevaeh can’t play outside. It was such a relief to move.”

Banman’s enthusiasm for the cause is hard to overstate. “I had the best day I’ve had in a long time just waking up this morning,” he told the crowd. Banman has travelled the world doing charity work with Habitat, and related some of his experiences in Haiti. “It is hard when you have food to eat and the people next to you are not eating their lunch so they can take it home to their families,” he said. Banman also praised the charitiable spirit of the AWW staff, remembering their generosity when the company raised money for typhoon victims in the Phillipines. “We didn’t have enough faith in you guys,” Banman said. “We thought you would raise $2,500 and instead you raised $16,000.”
Marshman was quick to recognize Banman for his efforts. “Henry doesn’t say much, but he is one of Habitat’s biggest boosters in Canada,” he said. He pointed out that AWW’s contributions to Habitat have totaled $8 million since the start of the program, and that the Blitz Builds alone have contributed more than $500,000 worth of material to the program over the last three years. “You are doing much more than providing four walls and a roof,” Marshman told the workers. “You are providing a home. You transform lives.”

Banman then toured guests around the plant explaining the machinery and processes while the workers completed the Build.
