Ontario shuts down ICI construction, residential allowed to proceed

April 3, 2020  By Patrick Flannery

Ontario updated its list of essential services allowed to operate today, removing over 30 categories. Private sector commercial and industrial construction is ordered to cease by midnight April 4, except for specific activities critical to maintaining health care, transportation, utilities and government operations. Residential construction with a permit is allowed to go forward, as are renovations already in progress. There was no change to manufacturing; “Businesses that extract, manufacture, process and distribute goods, products, equipment and materials, including businesses that manufacture inputs to other manufacturers” are still on the list.
