B.C. to release Energy Step Code Guidelines

May 11, 2017 – On June 7, the BC Energy Step Code Council will release the BC Energy Step Code Best Practices Guide. Though the guide will target a local government audience, it will also be of interest to the fenstration sector as it provides a great deal of information about the code and its focus on envelope.

Effective April 7, 2017, The BC Energy Step Code is a new provincial standard that aims to create healthier, more efficient, and more comfortable new buildings. It does so by establishing measurable performance based energy-efficiency requirements  — targets — for new construction. The code groups these performance targets into a series of “steps” of increasing energy efficiency. The higher the step, the better the energy performance.
