Fenestration Manitoba to tour BETAC

The Building Efficiency Technology Access Centre (BETAC) was developed to support the building industry in addressing the challenges of designing, constructing and operating durable, energy-efficient buildings in regions with an extreme climate. BETAC’s mission is to provide a multi-disciplinary environment to facilitate advancements in building energy efficiency and durability, while addressing the building’s intended use, its occupants, life service and climate zone location.

Join Fenestration Manitoba on Tuesday, April 25th at 1:30 pm for a presentation on the Building Efficiency Technology Access Centre (BETAC) to learn about how they can help your business followed by a tour of the Centre for Applied Research in Sustainable Infrastructure (CARSI).

Alireza Kaboorani, Ph.D.
Alireza Kaboorani is the Director of Building Efficiency Technology Access Centre (BETAC) at the Red River College Polytechnic (RRC Polytech).  He has 20 years of experience in planning and leading research in both academic and industrial environments. His expertise includes building envelope, building materials, biomaterials, and product development. He has unique hands-on experience in development and commercialization of innovative products. Concurrent to his position at RRC Polytech, he is an adjust professor at Laval University in Quebec City. He is the co-supervisor of five Ph.D. students working on Low-Energy House and Zero-Energy Building Design.

Gary Proskiw, P. Eng.
Gary Proskiw of Proskiw Engineering Ltd. is a mechanical engineer with over 45 years of experience in building science, energy management, research and training.  He has served on the Part 9 Committees of both the National and Manitoba Building Codes as well as several CSA and CGSB committees; and has spent a lot of time working with broken buildings (and broken building owners). Gary has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters of Engineering in Building Science.

Kevin Knight
Kevin Knight is a building envelope authority with over 35 years’ experience in field observation and testing, commissioning, research, education and training. Kevin is the President of Retro-Specs Ltd, the Founding Principle of Edifice Tutorial Inc and was a Research Professional at the Red River College Winnipeg between the years 2011-2019 . Since 2012 Kevin has been an affiliated consultant with Wiss, Janney Elstner. In June 2019 Kevin joined Tower Engineering as the technical leader of the new Building Science Division.
