Vancouver bans door knobs

November 26, 2013  By Patrick Flannery

Nov. 26, 2013 – Vancouver has banned round door knobs in new entry doors in single family homes and townhomes built in the city, effective March 2014. The ban is part of an update to the city’s Building Code, and many reports are speculating as to whether provinces across the country will follow suit. Handle levers are now mandated on all new construction. The move is intended to improve accessibility and safety, especially for seniors and people with disabilities.
