FenCan encouraging response to Greener Homes Grant changes

December 8, 2023  By Patrick Flannery

Fenestration Canada is inviting window and door manufacturers and dealers to participate in a write-in campaign to Natural Resources Canada expressing industry concerns about changes to the Greener Homes Grant forecast by Jean-Clement Chenier, NRCan director general, in a recent townhall meeting. Chenier said the program intends to implement a deadline by which outstanding work must be completed in order for homeowners to receive the grant, even if they have already applied. He also confirmed there is no indication at present that the program funding will be renewed once the present budget allotments run out.

The Greener Homes grant is a federal program launched in May 2021 and provides up to $5,000 in rebates to homeowners for energy-efficient home upgrades, including windows and doors. The program has struggled throughout its existence with a shortage of energy advisors to approve work and to process applications in a timely manner.
