Several of the April 19 shootings in Nova Scotia occurred within a few kilometers of the Debert, N.S., headquarters of Kohltech Windows and Entrance Systems. Kohltech owners, Kevin Pelley and Carl Ballard, released the following statement:

A terrible tragedy unfolded near our Debert head office and manufacturing plant this past weekend and many lives have been lost in our community. Because this heartbreaking catastrophe occurred in our backyard, many of our Debert employees were impacted by the loss of an immediate family member, friend or member of our community.

Our condolences and thoughts go out to those on our team and the many families who have been directly or indirectly touched by this unfathomable event.

This incident will affect different people in different ways and we are reaching out to every employee with emotional support and information on how to access our employee assistance program for tragedy and grief counseling.

We stand strong with our Debert colleagues and grieve with them during this extremely tough time.

We will communicate additional information as it becomes available.
