Magic in the mountains at Fenestration Canada Spring Conference

Fenestration Canada held its 2024 Spring Conference at Kananaskis Mountain Lodge in Kananaskis, Alta., June 4 through 7. The venue couldn’t have been more scenic, located about an hour’s drive west of Calgary in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Wanderers sighted deer, elk, bighorn sheep and bears, including grizzly bears (thankfully from afar).
The hotel itself was set up for relaxation with an extensive Nordic spa and blazing campfires to fend off the mountain chill.
The Spring Conference opened with the President’s Dinner where Cam Drew honoured Lindsay McGhie of Centennial Windows with the President’s Award.
Conference sessions were stuffed with exclusive and targeted information for window and door manufacturers and dealers, including some breaking news from NRCan about a proposed national labeling regime. Attendees also got a preview of Canadian window and door market research from Brad Farnsworth. Not just for the WDMA any more! Further discussions explored a database of Environmental Product Declarations; proposed federal reporting requirements on PFAS chemicals that could massively impact the industry; a preview of important updates in the 2025 National Building Code; a look at the Alberta building code; and talks on VOCs and installation training.
 
 
Night time was fun time with attendees gathering at Boundary Ranch for drinks, lassoing, big Janga and delicious barbeque (great beans!). The Fenestration Canada Member of the Year belt was awarded a little differently with four contestants racing bouncy horses. The race got fairly intense, with Christian Guerard of Adfast resorting to foul play before the dust settled. In the end, even his malfeasance couldn’t stop Martin St-Arnaud of JSA Machinerie’s righteous victory.
Spring Conference 2025 will take place in Halifax.
