Commercial content at WinDoor – Fire-rated glazing

October 11, 2018  By Patrick Flannery

WinDoor 2018, happening Dec. 4 and 5 in Quebec City, will include for the first time a slate of commercial education sessions and exhibits. One of these will be “A Window to the Canadian codes and fire safety regulations” presented by Amal Tamim and Marc-Andre Langevin of Technorm.

Following recent changes to what is considered “safety glass” for fire control purposes, glaziers are challenged to understand what they can specify in various commerical, institutional and industrial builds where prevention of fire spread is a concern. Also, new technology in fire-resistant glass is making new designs possible that achieve fire-resistance goals without sacrificing esthetics. Tamim and Langevin will provide manufacturers, distributors and suppliers with knowledge of Canadian regulatory requirements for fire-resistance performance. Attendees will be able to understand the regulatory framework, identify codes and standards for door, glazing and fenestration products and apply the correct requirements to various locations in buildings.
